Early life
Born in Mumbai, Mandhana started playing cricket at the age of nine. Her father, Shrinivas Mandhana, who used to play cricket at the district level, would take her to cricket coaching camps. In 2013, aged 17, she was selected in the Maharashtra Under-19 team for the 2012–13 season. Mandhana plays as an opening batsman and occasional off-spin bowler. In December 2015, during the 2015–16 season, she was named as the player of the series in the Senior Women's T20 Challenger Trophy after scoring two half-centuries and finishing as the leading run-scorer of the tournament.
Family
Smriti Mandhana was born on July 18, 1996, in Mumbai, India. She is the eldest of three sisters. Her father, Santosh Mandhana, works in a transportation company, while her mother, Smita, is a homemaker. Mandhana started playing cricket at the age of nine. Her role model is Sachin Tendulkar and her favorite cricketer is Virat Kohli.
Education
Smriti Mandhana went to school at DAV Public School, Chennai, and then to SVISM, Yavatmal for her higher secondary education. In 2013, she shifted to Bangalore to play cricket for Karnataka State Women's cricket team. From thereon, she pursued her bachelor's in Sports Sciences from Mangalore University through correspondence.
Domestic career
Smriti Madhana is an Indian cricketer who plays for the Indian national women's cricket team. She plays as a batter in the One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). She has also played for Maharashtra in the domestic circuit. Madhana made her ODI debut against Australia on 10 January 2013, where she scored 2 runs before being dismissed by Sarah Coyte. In her second match, against New Zealand, she scored her first half-century, an unbeaten knock of 58 runs off just 54 balls. This was followed by another half-century in her third match, where she scored 61 not out off just 54 balls against Sri Lanka.
International career
Smriti made her international debut in January 2013, when she was selected for the Indian squad for the 2013 Women's cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament in Bangladesh. India qualified for the World Cup after defeating Pakistan in the final. In the tournament, Smriti scored 177 runs from five matches at an average of 35.40. In June 2013, Smriti was selected in India's squad for the 2013 ICC Women's World Twenty20 tournament in England. She was the leading run-scorer for India in the tournament, with 127 runs from five matches, including a half-century. In October 2013, Smriti made her One Day International (ODI) debut against Bangladesh in the Bangladesh women's cricket team tri-nation series which also featured Pakistan. In December 2013, during the second match of the ODI series against the Pakistan women's cricket team, Smriti scored her maiden ODI century; she finished unbeaten on 106 runs from 109 balls. At 17 years and 115 days, she became the youngest Indian woman to score an ODI century and also the second-youngest woman to score an ODI century after Flora Gardener of Australia. In July 2014, Smriti was named to India's squad for the 2014 ICC Women's World Twenty20 tournament in Bangladesh. She was the leading run scorer for India in that tournament with 157 runs at an average of 31.40. India was Eliminated from the Super 10 stage after finishing fifth in Group B with three points. In November 2014, during India's home series against England women's cricket team which consisted of three ODIs and as many Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), she scored her second century in ODIs; an unbeaten 102 from 109 balls at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack.
